I designed this
informational web site to help spread the word about Public
Adoptions.
Private adoptions seam to get all of the press
and advertisement coverage. I want
everyone to know the secret
of public adoptions. Possibly, like me, you can find a
loving child
through the US government. Literally thousands
of great adoptable children are available
right
here in the good
old US of A, and there is no better option than with your local
government. |
|
|
|
I always wanted to adopt a child, not only because I liked the
idea, but I also figured it was a good way for me to contribute to
society. As I grew older waiting for the right time, I
slowly collected information on the subject. Over the years; I
like most people had heard several stories of private adoptions,
both domestic and international. I heard of various public
figures and acquaintances
alike with tales of various battles
waged by adoptive parents involving agency problems, foreign
political issues, legal hang ups, sketchy birth parents, and all
involved high lawyer/expense fees.
|
|
|
|
I wondered if there
was another way. I wondered why the process had to be
so
hard on the adoptive parents. I hoped that a thing that was so
wonderful could
also be relatively easy and straight forward.
Luckily I stumbled across a great
solution for me, and it was all to the credit of our government, what a
pleasant surprise!
Public Adoption.
It
made sense; our governments social services programs are directly
involved with
child custody, well being, foster care, and
adoptions of all children in the US. Why not
go to the source for the children that need adopting right here? |
|
|
|
I was currently enrolled in a pre-adoptive class at a private
non profit adoption
agency. In the class I discovered that
one of the agencies primary sources of adoptable
children was the various county government human service agencies in the
local area.
I gave the county government
a call. I discovered I could
work directly with my local
human services department,
through their social workers. I could adopt a child
directly
from them, cutting out the middle man and some of the red
tape in the process. |
|
|
|
I decided to give it
a try. I signed up for the free after work, pre-adoption
training-which proved to be very informative. I figured I
could drop out at any time if I decided
it was not for me, no
harm no fowl. Social workers also confirmed that this was
the case and that most potential parents approach the system
this way. |
|
|
|
After nine short months, I was the proud father
of a 18 month old baby girl (see the
Process page for more
information about issues that affect your expected waiting time
prior to receiving
your child placement). She is now almost five and the
entire process went without a hitch. |
|
|
|
Up to the point when
I signed the final adoption paperwork in the judges chambers I
could have
decided that the adoption was not going to work out I could have called it off with no penalty. |
